We’re all pretty familiar with mainstream Easter traditions such as egg hunts, easter baskets, and chocolate bunnies, but there are others that are just a little more unique and equally fun!
According to oral history, the German tradition of Osterbrunnen dates back to the 20th century. Villages wanted to honor both Easter and the gift of water by decorating public wells and fountains with elaborate greenery and Easter eggs. Prior to the adornments, men would perform the ceremony of Brunnen fegen and sweep the well clean. Then came Brunnen putzen which means to decorate the well.
