Has it really been a year?
Hurricane Harvey blows into town: August 25, 2017
Houston was really battening down the hatches, as they say, about this time last August — in anticipation of a hurricane that would change lives and landscape in Southeast Texas. First the wind and rain. Then the unimaginable flooding.
Luckily, Dewberry Farm fared well. Some of our attractions were “scratched and dented”, but the farm’s sandy soil drained the water and nothing floated away. Farm employees were not so lucky. Some were marooned for days with their homes surrounded by flood waters. The Office Manager watched flood waters rise almost a foot into her family’s home, and they were eventually evacuated by boat.
We could not let the anniversary of Hurricane Harvey pass without some commemoration — so, we planted ours! Yeah, in our 2018 cornfield maze, Texas is kicking ole Harvey in the patootie! The lives of everyone in the Houston area were effected by Hurricane Harvey in 2017, but the rally cry of “Houston Strong” reflects the pride and spirit of our communities in coming back, recovering and rebuilding homes, businesses … and lives.
