Texas is a melting pot of culture with some of the strongest customs, foods, celebrations, drinks and traditions coming from Mexico. We did not know, however, that our Christmas poinsettias originated in that country!
Did you know … ?
According to Wikipedia, Mexico is the origin of the poinsettia! In pre-Hispanic times there were called cuetlaxochitl (can anyone say this word?) and were a special favorite in mid-winter. One legend says that the poinsettia plant was once a weed that miraculously turned into a lovely flower so that a child might present it to the infant Jesus.
