Last year, for the first time, we had the Lighted Pumpkin Hayride through Pumpkin Hollow where over 350 carved and lighted pumpkins were displayed in various scenes. It was a huge success but there was a major problem. We only had 4 hayride trailers which can carry about 50 guests each. At times we had a thousand people all wanting to ride the first 4 departing trailers since many had young children ready for bed. It was a logistical nightmare. Doubling the number of trailers would not solve the problem so our solution was to change the format to a Lighted Pumpkin Stroll and build a bridge over the canal that separates Pumpkin Hollow from the rest of the farm. By adding the bridge, the distance walked through the Pumpkin Hollow was cut in half from what the hayrides traveled. Now Pumpkin Hollow is about 2 city blocks long and everyone has an excellent view of the pumpkins and can move along at his/her desired pace. We will take guests on the hayride trailers to the bridge on a first come, first served basis but if you don’t want to wait for a trailer, you are welcome to walk to the bridge which is about 2 city blocks from the animal barn. The exit to Pumpkin Hollow is located next to the north east parking lot and about a one block walk back to the animal barn. We cannot pick up guests with the trailers at the exit because of traffic in the parking lot.
Pumpkin Hollow is even more spectacular than last year. Contract artists have carved at least another 150 artificial pumpkins to add to the displays. About 10 scenes are displayed along the Hollow including TV cartoon charactures, kid’s movie cartoon characters, Texana, Americana, famous people, barnyard animals, zoo animals and a couple of mild Halloween scenes — no gory stuff at all. Please note that there is a $3 charge for the Pumpkin Stroll. Tokens will be collected at the bridge and can be purchased at any cash register or at the red, white and blue Token Booth. Pumpkin Hollow is only open on Saturday nights and opens when it is good and dark so the pumpkins will come to life when lit.
